A Taiwan-linked firm which claims ownership of the iPad trademark in China has registered law suits and filed complaints against Apple for violation, a lawyer claimed. Apple lost a lawful fight against Proview Technology (Shenzhen) recently after a Chinese court ruled the United states company lacked proof in its claim that Proview was infringing its trademark for the well-known computer tablet.
Xie Xianghui, a legal representative for Proview, which is located in the southern city of Shenzhen, claimed the company had now registered law suits through the courts and made official claims to the govt after the judgment. Proview Technology (Shenzhen) is owned and operated by a Taiwanese firm that authorized the trademark title ?iPad? in numerous places including China as early as 2000, yrs before Apple started selling the product.
Apple purchased the legal rights for the worldwide trademark, but Proview Technology (Shenzhen) retained the Chinese rights, the official Xinhua news agency has revealed. Proview has previously told Apple to pay $1.6 billion in settlement for trademark violation. Apple began selling its modern iPad in China in Sept. 2010, after months of grey-market steps among avid purchasers unwilling to wait for the formal release.
Proview had made a official claim to a branch of the Beijing Industry and Commerce Administration, as well as the same govt agency in 2 other Chinese cities, which could result in charges for Apple, he says. The firm was also pursuing a case against Apple in Shanghai and had sued 2 household product retailers to pressure them to halt selling iPads, Xie added.
